Queens non-profit dedicated to uplifting underserved communities
Teaching teens transferable life skills, cleaning up community parks and providing goods to those in need are just some of the things one Queens-based non-profit organization is doing.
Showing Hearts Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating, empowering and uplifting underserved communities through youth economic development, community outreach and organizational support.
“Showing Hearts has the unique ability to influence more than 1,500 New Yorkers each year with the work they do in the community,” said Lynden Scott, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) General Manager, JFK. “We are honored to be a part of that change and are grateful to Showing Hearts for taking the time and effort to lift up these underserved communities.”
Since 2020, URW Airports has supported the group’s events such as the YOUTHpreneur Summit program and Heart for the Community.
“We are honored to be a part of that change and are grateful to Showing Hearts for taking the time and effort to lift up these underserved communities.”
Supports teens, community through essential programming
The YOUTHpreneur Summit program consists of a series of after school programs where students learn a variety of transferable skills such as public speaking, entrepreneurship, marketing, financial literacy and more. The program concludes with a one-day summit where students pitch their ideas to a panel to win prizes. Panelists also provide insight into their career choices introducing the students to new career paths, internships and mentoring.
Recently the URW Airports team spent the afternoon cleaning up Haggerty Park in Queens as part of a Heart for the Community Beautification Project. The team painted park benches, cleaned up the grounds and helped with landscaping to make the park a safe and welcoming place.
“URW has been an esteemed partner for many years and is a company who understands the needs of the community,” said David Tanis, Showing Hearts Foundation Founder. “We are so appreciative of their support of our programs and our organization as a whole. These valuable relationships enable us to continue making a difference in our community.”
URW also has helped by donating baby items, feminine products and toiletries to be given to several families, local women shelters and young mothers in need during the organization’s monthly community distribution.
Showing Hearts also created a Coworking Community where community stakeholders are introduced to peers and have access to programming space, program partners and can enroll in workshops such as grant writing, marketing, bookkeeping and organizational development.
